Canyon

Image

I can feel the edge right under my feet

I am now conscious after such a long time

Shall I fall right now or stay still, incomplete?

I was safe and risking it seems to be a crime

My legs are shaking – there’s no one around

What if you don’t catch me, will I be fine?

I’m struggling to handle these feelings I found

I fear the way you filled the empty space

My heart beats so fast I can hear its sound

I’m trying to bring the memory of your face

Is it worth jumping and loosing myself?

I don’t know what to do, my brain’s someplace else

I’m fighting, I’m crumbling, and I’m losing my health

Without the safety net I shall fully live at last

Don’t want the big fame, don’t care about wealth

Nothing exists no more, love took over so fast

It’s time to fall into the canyon in my heart

I’ll spread my arms and say ‘goodbye’ to the past

The truth is we should never be apart

When it comes to love no woman can be smart

Longing

Image

In the jar of monotony I fell in so deep

Forgot how it feels to hold loving hand

Never stood still since I left my homeland

So far from loved ones my heart fell asleep

Did not want the pain, did not want to weep

My dream fell apart, that’s not what I planned

Never intended to build castles in the sand

I struggled I battled I started to creep

Now I still yearn but I found my way

I found what I needed I relieved my pain

I know I am on the right track today

I’m brought back to life, I’m hopeful again

Where I am right now I will always stay

Thanks to you my friends – Happy I’ll remain

I’m like a magician

I steal your dreams and smiles

And fill my pockets with them

To bring it home

And fall asleep

With them hidden under my pillow

Don’t ask me

What am I going to do

When you leave me

Ask me

What am I going to do

If you are never going to come back

Can’t you see my thirst

When you look into my eyes?

Don’t you know my dreams

When I fall asleep with my head on your shoulder?

I want to bribe the time

To make moments last longer

And make the days taste sweeter

It doesn’t matter you can’t be mine

It matters how many times you were there

Just for me…

I’m like a pot

I let you drink delight from

Until you get dizzy and faint.

Raven

He visits my window every morning

Proud, beautiful and bizarre

Rejected by others, alone

But gifted with extraordinary power

Marvellous wings

Shine in my darkness

Where the light

Makes me sick.

He soars with the wind

To fly in his loneliness

Innocent but meant to be alone

Till the end of his days

He appears in my window

And he looks into my soul

Fulfilling it with his power

And making me feel calm

When he flies away I know

He will be back

Forever connected

With the chain of similarities

Me and my white raven

Oh How I Hate Mornings

Blood in my veins has slowed down

Eyelids are extremely heavy

And I have to pinch myself

For them not to fall

Tick Tock

Tick Tock

Annoying yellow walls

Seem to be even brighter

In the morning rays of sunshine

It irritates me and my eyes.

Tick Tock

Tick Tock

I uncontrollably keep scratching

the pink polish off my nails –

-Impatient like never before

Thoughts in my head are broken

Into uneven little pieces

Like a child’s jigsaw puzzle

And it seems impossible

To put them back together.

Tick Tock

Tick Tock

The landscape picture on the wall

reminds me of something

A place from my childhood…

Or maybe not the place itself

But the specific atmosphere

i subconsciously attached to it.

The sound of pens

Scratching the paper brutally

Is getting louder

And so is the ticking

of my impatient watch.

Tick tock,

Tick tock…

The smell of someone else’s coffee

is teasing my throat painfully

Craving for caffeine has reached the point,

When I can’t think about anything else

The silent clock above the wooden door…

Even though I know it doesn’t work

And in this particular room is always 9.35

I still look at it subconsciously.

Tick tock

Tick tock…

Gift

One hour, two hours…

Fifth one, fiftieth one…

That’s how the world

Passes you by

You play the role

Of an observer

In the stage of life

You’re overacting

Why hide?

Why pretend?

And grit your teeth?

Be yourself for once

Take the mask off

Reject the rules

With smile side by side

Run barefoot

Across the purple meadow

In the center of universe

Feel the taste of a laugh

Feel the touch of a breath

And in this madness stay

Stay and live

Take others with you

Every lonely soul

Who’s forgotten

That life is for living.

That life is a gift…

Abbadon

Image

You’re like a fallen angel with a broken wing

Your eyes never see or notice any disaster

Simply because you don’t worry about a thing

Risk is your advisor and Dishonesty your master.

You hide your face behind dark mask and a hat

You blink your eyes and smile with grace

You’re not going to fool anyone with that

Not me, not yourself, not a whole human race

I’m knocking on your heart’s door, anyone there?

Some decency maybe, remains of your soul?

Your true colors underneath costumes you wear

Abandon them, they won’t let you breathe at all…

But there’s still hope, there’s still tomorrow

You can rescue your soul and let it shine

You won’t hurt anyone, won’t cause any sorrow

Be yourself, be truthful and then just be mine

Everybody knows Susan Boyle – Media as a contemporary star factory

The Susan Boyle’s story is a perfect example of the uncontrollable power of television and the electronic media. In spring 2009 no one has ever heard about her, but one audition in one of April’s episodes of ‘Britain’s got talent’, where she sang “I dreamed a dream” from the musical “Les Miserables” has turned her life upside down. In few mere minutes of her performance she transformed from this inconspicuous overweight ‘plain Jane’ with really bad hair into a star. She impressed everyone, including restrained Simon Cowell and went all the way to the final.
But it’s not only the television that decided about her fame. Almost immediately after her appearance on the show the big internet machine started. Fans of the show uploaded a lot of fragments of her performance on the web. After only few days she’s been watched over 100 million times and the “I dreamed a dream” video have become a big You Tube hit. With such a big backup of potential fan base she was bound to succeed. Her first album came out in November 2009 becoming the fastest selling debut album in the history and a number one in nine countries, including UK.

The tabloids just loved Susan Boyle inventing all the possibles comparisons – from the Cinderella story and the Ugly Duckling fairytale to the american myth about bootblack becoming a millionaire. There were also attempts to analyse her phenomenon from the feministic point of view. She became a role model to every housewife in the country and a glimmer of hope that dreams really do come true. As the american activist from the ‘Huffington Post’ said, Susan Boyle was a big kick in the face for the youth culture where there’s no place for older women. Another controversial comment was made by Sharon Osbourne who compared Susan’s looks to a ‘slapped ass’ in the radio interview, which she actually had to apologize for. In fact it’s hard to imagine more accurate contradiction to all the standards binding the world of contemporary pop culture  Pop culture where beauty and youth are worshiped. ‘Is Susan ugly? Or are we?’ asks Tanya Gold from the ‘Guardian’.

Year 2009 didn’t belong to Susan Boyle only. One of the biggest stars of those twelve months was Lady Gaga, who isn’t an example of perfection either. Actually more spiteful comments on the web say that she looks more like a well groomed transvestite than a classic beauty. Even so Stefani Germanotta has taken over the playlists all over the world. Because of her controversial over styled outfits she also became a specific style icon. She made provocation and originality her main weapons in the battle for fame and it worked. Like Madonna quarter of a century ago she uses drastic methods to grab the attention and always manages to think of something new. We all remember that meat dress don’t we? Lets not even try to search for logic or sense in this – she just simply plays with rules and conventions in order to shock us. Controversy always have and always will sell. Anyway Lady Gaga knows exactly what she’s doing to satisfy the audience and the hungry for scandals tabloids. It’s not that easy considering the fact that we live in the world where we’ve already seen everything.

Anther media product that caused a lot of noise in United States – Adam Lambert. The American Idol contestant keeps shocking the audience with his sexuality. He’s homosexual but he’s image is quite far from the safe image of a typical gay person created by the contemporary media. He expresses it in a very controversial ways. As an example we can use his performance during the American Music Awards ceremony when he kissed his keyboarder and simulated oral sex with one of the dancers. It obviously caused discussions in media, but Lambert stubbornly claimed that if women do it for years it’s ok for men to do it too.

Some can be moved by Susan Boyle’s story, some can be impressed with the talent hidden underneath her sloppy exterior, but that’s not the reason why we keep reading about it. Just like in the Lady Gaga’s or Lambert’s case – it’s the guilty pleasure of spying on people who are different, who are beyond normality and acceptance. On the other hand Susan Boyle and Lady Gaga have more in common that we’d think. Aesthetically they might be on two different poles of the pop culture, but they’re both drastically exaggerated by media.

Being in the center of attention and the sudden fame can easily overwhelm though. Susan Boyle didn’t handle the fact that all eyes were on her very well either. She became a star and media’s favorite subject among only few days. Everyone was convinced she was going to win the competition, have a big future and even bigger money. Unfortunately in the grand final she lost to a dance group Diversity. While the results were being announced we could all notice that there’s something wrong going on with Susan. She looked confused and when she was congratulating the winners she did some kind of wild dance pulling her dress up to her hips. Things got worse when she demolished her room in Crown Plaza hotel and ended up in the London clinic – Priory. Her career became a big question mark at the time.
Her house in Scotland for months was surrounded by nosy journalists. In all her interviews on You Tube we can see how big metamorphose she went through. From cheerful happy women she transformed into a nervous shaky wreck. Her short interviews with Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman through video links show the best how much she changed. Facing such a big pressure from society and media had a huge impact on Miss Boyle, for whom world must have become very narrow and one-dimensional. She either had to win or loose. Things had to be either black or white. Ofcom even considered initiating proceedings, after receiving a massive amount of complaints, but it has been postponed. One is certain – Susan have become a victim of fame and probably a victim of being a ‘media product’.
Lets stop there for a while and analyse this phenomenon of people becoming a branded product. Years ago only the first league politicians had to worry about their image. Nowadays everyone who appears in media tries to create a specific phenomenon, be different and build their own brand. Having a talent isn’t enough in contemporary world. Like we’ve seen on Susan Boyle’s example – no one would have noticed her if she was physically attractive, world is full of beautiful talented people. Her inconspicuous looks have made her remarkable.

Interesting, attention grabbing idea is essential. Sasha Baron Cohen is a comedian who created three different contrasting with each other characters. He gained an extreme popularity with each one of them. Those three characters are: racist  sexist but naive Borat, a ‘chav’ with a mentality of a pander – Ali G and a homosexual journalist – Bruno. Sasha has succeeded because he’s selling images that we love and hate at the same time. Paradoxical, but sells. It’s a part of creating a personal brand. Creating a remarkable feature we can easily associate with a person.

Worth mentioning is also the massive role of magazines in this ‘star making’ machine. Their impact is huge, especially if it comes to juveniles. The real ‘role models’ are being kept in a shadow because they’re just simply too boring to write about. The whole attention is going to the fake celebrities, ‘five minute wonders’. They’ve become famous in a trivial way or only because they’re friends of other celebrities. They’re not talented and not remarkable but, only because they already exist in the world of media and they’re known by the audience, the producers want them in their movies and music companies want to record their albums. It’s also surprising how people are able to humiliate or embarass themselves in aim to ‘stay on top’. It concerns people who create shows like “Jackass” or “Dirty Sanchez”, where the main characters intentionally wound or injure themselves in order to shock the audience and make them laugh. At the end of the day they’re making a lot of money on that and that’s the only thing that matters in the media world. All star wannabies want to get media’s approval. People who aren’t interesting enough to grab their attention can forget about their dreams of big fame. If they appear on the television they’re not just ‘somebody’ anymore, they become a ‘personality’.

Another fake stars – reality shows’ contestants. Those are ordinary people who got into the shows like ‘Big Brother’, pretend they’re someone they’re not and sell a fake image. In fact what we see on the telly or read in mags is only a part of them they want to show us, a part that is most sellable. Unfortunately the image can also easily wear out and celebrities are aware of that. That’s why they so often change their style and try to come up with something different and new. It’s all just a part of a product and result of good marketing.
Wedding videos, affairs, deaths, tragedies, secrets – they’re all for sale too and most celebrities have their own ‘tariff’ for them. A lot of them will do anything to stay in the center of attention  even expose their private lives to the public as a part of manipulation. A big role in that plays Twitter, where celebrities on their blogs share their privacy, thoughts and sometimes pictures to promote an image. Twitter is a way to communicate with the fan base and give them impression that they’re actually taking part in celebrities’ life. Blogs are specific form of media that gives us possibility to have a closer look into someone’s real life. They’ve become popular because people actually believe they’re more authentic than anything we can see on telly or read in tabloids – because it comes directly from the celebrities. Tweeter can be also used as a tool. For example Barack Obama’s blog, during the campaign was active at least once a day, now is completely silent. The existence of Twitter is only one of the proofs that the myth about celebrities being unreachable extraordinary people is falling down. Today they’re just one of us, especially when we live in the mass media world where almost everyone can become a celebrity.

I used to think that the mane role of media is to inform. But recently even the more opinionated and respected broadsheets started to write about cheap sensations that used to be tabloids’ domain. According to what we see in media – what sells good, is good. Quality doesn’t matter anymore. People need celebrities, even if they don’t represent anything valuable. Even if they’re all the same – the same face, the same talk – people still watch them. Not because they like them but because they get used to them and know them.

Anyway if you’re a celebrity you have to appear on the television or in papers systematically. Media can make miracles. It’s just as easy to fall off the pedestal as it is to get on it – like it was in Susan Boyle’s case, I described before. Her appearance in a talent show became a media revelation but ended tragically for her. Just to sum up, it’s worth noticing that being a media receiver has two different sides. One of them is trivialization of the content shown in the media an the other – wrong impact on the society. Media throw on people an excess of an information, giving them ready products, pathetic ‘role models’ and in a result people don’t even want to think for themselves following the patterns created by media. Some people in the media, as they’re just a product, might be influential popular or even powerful. But not very often they represent any values or a character. We, as an audience, are responsible for that. It’s about time we start fighting those patterns, just like we fight terrorism, climate or the economical crisis.

When I got letter from You

Image

It’s 4.30pm in Preston,

Another cloudy but warm Thursday.

It’s 2010 and I’m sat on the floor in the attic.

I take my eyes off the envelope in front of me

and smell the summer breeze.

I can’t bring myself to read it, it’s too hard.

Even gentle waves on the river, I can hear through the open window,

won’t calm me down.

The door slams downstairs and I immediately jump up

and run barefoot. I don’t care that the carpet is still dirty

from the Saturday’s party.

I give Darla a hug , her hair is still wet from the rain

and it leaves a big dark stain on my new silk blouse.

She follows me into the kitchen for a refreshing glass of Dr Pepper

and we both agree to go for a walk –

– it seems like a perfect way of running from my fear,

that’s still lying on that cold attic floor waiting for me to face it.

We walk towards the park and talk about Darla’s new boyfriend

and other trivial things, but I’m struggling to take my mind off the letter.

On the way to the park we nip to the small shop on the corner of Taylor Street

and buy couple of bottles of Corona and a box of Menthol Pall Malls.

I instantly open the packet and light a cigarette

thinking about the show I saw earlier on You Tube.

It was a comedy and the content was rather weak but I remember this guy

claiming that men have a ‘nothing box’ in their brains, and that they can

run into it whenever they want.

At this moment in time I wish I had a ‘nothing box’ in my head.

The sun begins to set and as we take the last sip of, already warm, Corona

we start making our way back home.

It’s almost 7 and I feel restless. As we walk into the house I hear my friends’ excited

voices in the kitchen, but I don’t stop, I run upstairs – suddenly impatient.

I sit on the freezing cold floor and start reading. My hands are shaking and I can hear

Byórk’s ‘Army of Me’ being played in the room downstairs.

And then, just like that, my world falls apart.

Bridge

Image

Do you remember those stars?

Their sharp almost unreachable arms

Pierced my heart so many times

It’s now numb from sorrow.

You’re still here…

Not physically,

But you are.

Everyday…

Every second..

When I rewind the frames of my memory

Or when I sail on the river of my thoughts

Every snapshot

And every flash of light

Is you.

Do you remember the delightful mornings

On our beloved fields of gold?

Or our passionate dance

vibrating in the darkness?

Or the whispering nights

Interrupted  by the melody in our ears?

Do you remember when us two

Became one?

One perfect unity

Floating to the rhythm

Of the pulsating dance floor.

But this picture fades away

With every drop of time.

And as long as the rest of hope

Holds the bridge between us

There’s still a way back…

[Bang!]

Image

He was so dramatic

Standing in front of the mirror

Wearing his best black suit

With red rose in the buttonhole

He placed the instrument in his mouth

And waited until it gets warm and ready

Smiling to himself with the distraction

Of a person who doesn’t feel anymore.

He pulled the trigger suddenly

And fell like a jacket

Dropped from someone’s shoulders

But his bare soul stayed there

In front of the truthful mirror

Nodding its head and smiling with predomination

Getting lighter and lighter

With every passing minute

Mountain Dew

Image

Is nowhere here

Or is here nowhere?

The absolute silence is almost painful

And I can hear my breath cutting

The fresh morning air

That at the dawn is so sharp

It can virtually wound my cold skin

It seems like the place is dead

But only most sensitive

And most intuitive ears

Can hear the lively sound of Earth

And if you listen closely

You will discover the secrets

Hidden underneath the peaceful exterior

The whispering of the mighty Trees

Gossiping about the awoken Sun

Determined to find its way

Between thick protective branches

A narrow mountain Torrent

Flowing fast and briskly

Smacking all the Rocks and Stones

Across their sad little faces

Trying to bring them back to life

Drops of the mountain Dew

Hanging uinsteadily from the railing

Of an old wooden bridge

Scared of drowning

In the ominous waves of the River

Almost ready to fall

But not just yet

And last but not least

Tip of the majestic Mountain

Reigning over its fellows

Creasing its forehead as

Lashed by the ruthless Wind

And desperately trying to hide

In the soft layer of blushing Clouds

One lonely Falcon

Flying in circles

And looking for answers

To all the questionnes

That haven’t even been asked yet

Feels like I’ve been watching him forever

But only a minute have gone by

Is now the time

Or is the time now?

I breathe in quietly

Scared to interrupt

Nature’s morning routine

In my head

There are answers

And I’m not affraid

To look deeper and further

As for the first time

In a significant amount of time

I hear

I feel

I want

I love

And I am

I’m scared

Image

I’m scared about you
I’m scared about the wind
I’m scared about someone’s life
I’m scared because I tend to

To blow the candle
And look into the future
Ask myself a question –
– What’s next, where to follow?

To know the truth
To be blissful and learn
Not to be scared to carry on
Not to be scared to live.

I’m scared about you
I’m scared about the wind
For it to blow your dreams
And for you not to understand what you’ve had.

Wandering Soul

Desires of the eternal wanderer
Are never gonna be satisfied
Even with lakes of abundance
Endless mediocrity
Is running through her fingers

Laden with trumpery she bends
Deprived from hope she screams
Without a whit of pride she begs
And the platitudes are flying
Right back into her mouth

Somewhere on Earth poets are sleeping
Covered with their quilts of white pages
Millions and millions of blue birds
Are going to welcome you
And the tireless tornado of your memories

Fate

Image

Two ends of the world.
The farthest corners of the Earth.
Two people.

A girl with golden hair
Shiny blue eyes
Good heart
And pure soul.

On the other side
A boy with chestnut eyes
Dark curls
And brave spirit.

They wait for love to come.
Even thought they’re still children
They believe in destiny.

Maybe one day
Their eyes will meet forever
Maybe their hands
will meet in eternal connection

Maybe their lips
Will touch softly
And their hearts
Will beat a little faster together

Maybe that will be
Maybe… If only
It’s written in the stars.

Racism – problem or just rarity?

Image

Global village

Contemporary United Kingdom is very often called a ‘global village’. Living here brings a lot of different consequences. One of them is the multicultural variety of people. This phenimenon is very familiar to all the immigrants among the UK. This country, like no other, is a cultural mixture of migrants from Europe, Asia and Africa. You would think that if England is such a hospitable country the problem of racism does not exist. Surprisingly the Europian Comission against Rasizm and Intolerance has a slightly different opnion. According to their report the number of racism crimes in England and Wales amounted to 31.000 in 2003. Five years later it reached 38.000. This increase is a little disquieting, although we have to consider the fact that the number of immigrants comming to UK has rised visibly as well. Simply – the more migrants the more incidents. Not necessarily we have to blame the increase of racist attitudes among native inhabitants. FRA (Fundamental Rights Agency) the huge amount of registered racism crimes assigns to the high effectiveness in finding and punishing the criminals. So maybe the problem of racizm is so visible because it’s also extremely condemned? Anyway according to FRA United Kingdom is the country that handles problems of racism and xenophobia the best. Is that just a pretence or a fact?

Lets skip the real crime for now and concentrate on what we can observe in politics and media. First of all we have BNP. One of the most popular parties in England – country distinguished for being anti-racist – bases their campaign on xenophobic slogans, such as “British jobs for British workers”. How’s that politically correct? BNP’s leader Nick Griffin supports the idea of minimizing the number of migrants in the country. He’s also known for his racial discrimination against minorities, but manifesting it legally is a bit over the top isn’t it? Thankfully the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission knew that as well and BNP ended up being sued for racial discrimination.

British media aren’t free from racism either. How many times while reading UK’s main tabloids we can fing stories and articles casting aspersions on immigrants? Cannot count how many times I found myself reading them with my mouth open in astonishment. On the other hand british government is very proud of their success in fighting rasism. For instance John Denham, the Communities Secretary, in January this year claimed that Great Britain has already gotten used to the multicultural society and the problem of racist behaviours has been almost eliminated, especially since 2000. Mr Denham also noticed that its not racism that is the danger for society but the class discrimination. The discrimination against the poor and less fortunate. What a shame that Mr Denham has forgotten to add that this poorer class includes mostly the migrant families. How to establish if the attack on poor indian family was caused by a racial or a class discrimination? The line is obviously very thin.

Bullying, discrimination or racism?

Even more often we can now hear about the intolerance among children. There’s aggression, insults, pokes or even acts of serious violence. Parents are helpless becuse even though they intervene and try to help nothing changes. Why does it happen? Why in a country where a Pole, a Briton and an Indian keep passing each other on the streets and their children are going to the same school we still can’t stop going on about racism?

Prejudices don’t come from nowhere. Children aren’t born with an already formed opinions about people’s nationality and they don’t hate another human being from the first day of their life. They get it from us – adults.
A child observes, listens and learns how to treat people from his parents, grandparents, friends or closest family. Lets remeber that, as parents, we take the biggest responsibility because it’s us who spend the most time with our children. If the child is a witness of us expressing negative opinions about other nationalities we can be sure that the seed of anger and hate might have been planted.

Lets remember that it’s not only about the racial discrimination. The lack of tolerance concerns a disagreement with any differences like religion, language, fashion, disabilities, opinions. In this matter stay in England for immigrants shouldn’t be any different than staying in other countries. UK offers freedom to anyone who’s ‘different’ in any possible way. In that case some cultural differences or manners aren’t that noticeable because they’re visible on a daily basis and we simply get used to them. It seems almost impossible for a child to experience an intolerance in such a varied society. But is it really?
United Kingdom is constantly grappling with problem of racist behaviours among youngsters in schools. And, what’s interesting, the victims aren’t always kids from migrant families but also English children. This year into the newspapers came back the case of a 15 year old Henry Webster who was bullied by a group of Asian boys three years ago. He was kicked and hit on a head with a hammer several times and still suffers from headaches and has memory problems. According to the reports in this case school is the one to blame, because they’ve done absolutely nothing to prevent this kind of incidents. The school knew that they’ll have to deal with a new ethnic group but didn’t provide students with appropriate integration processes. Aside from that, before the attack that almost ended tragically, there were incidents that should have alarmed the school. Lack of communication between schools and appropriate organisations created to deal with bullying in schools is very often a reason of similar accidents in the UK.

Kids in fact can be a lot worse than adults. They’re not emotionally mature and it’s harder for them to understand what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s why it’s parents and school who should take responsibility for their puppils.

Ill – concieved rasism

The most visible acts of racism, I think, are the ones against Asians. People are usually prejudiced and they like to blame the whole community for the ‘sins’ of individuals. That’s why it shockes me a little when I wake up and, with my morning coffee and cigarette, I sit in front of the telly to watch news and I see another embarrassing report. This time it was about increased safety and control on the airports. How all the passengers are going to be searched very carefully and, as the interviewed custom officer said, those serches concern mostly the followers of Islam. Kind of straight forward don’t you think? After the report I had a chance to listen to the spokesman from the Europian Commission agaist Racism and Intolerance, who was Asian British himself. He said that people who are going to be searched the most are mostly from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. He tried to keep his face straight but in his voice, maybe I’m wrong, I could hear anger and sadness about such an injustice.

Now I do realise that among the extremists who are responsible for the terrorist attacks in London or New York were Muslims but isn’t attacking the whole community a little too much? On the other hand when I actually thought about it, those controls are really the right thing to do and maybe I’m unnecessarily victimizing the Muslim community. Where is the line between rasism and common sense?
It’s worth noticing that the idea of racism is quite flexible and in fact has evolved among the years. Lack of an actuall definition of ‘racism’ results sometimes in ‘stretching’ the facts and classifying any disageement or conflict as racism. From the psychological poin of view everone who is sensitive about discrimination and racism is going to be a victim of it all the time, at least in their opinion. It’s like there was just one word for everything. Why? Because people like to categorize. If I don’t like an African guy at my work – I’m racist, if I don’t like a gay guy – I’m a homophobic, if I don’t like that a particular religion causes fanatic actions – I’m an islamophobic. It really isn’t that simple. So, while racism is a common problem, lets not get carried away like me and think before we accuse someone of racist behaviour.

Stereotypes – foundations of racism

They’re like a plague. Even worse, because the worst disease is cureable. Stereotypes stay and influence our mindes from generation to generation. Thanks to them people seem to be less complicated and life to be easier. Stereotypes seem to be very useful because they let us build the picture of the world. Or completely ruin it. According to them British are boring, Polish are alcoholics, blondes are stupid, lawyers are greedy and every Muslim is a terrorist.

It’s hard to fight sterotypes because peole like easy sollutions and hate complications. They have very important function – they excuse us from the lack of thinking. Blinded by them we often forget about the common sense and prejudge people unfairly. Thats how racism and hate are being born in our minds – by basing our opinions about some ethnic groups on stereotypes without exploring the subject. This is one of the reasons why people devide society into rwo groups – ‘us’ and ‘them’. We have an exceptional need to belong to a group we identify with and where we feel safe. Unfortunately we also tend to dislike people from the outside, people who are different. That’s where reluctance to immigrants and the belief that they ‘take British jobs’ comes from. We all want to be accepted but don’t accept or tolerate dissimilarities of other people – what a paradox of a human nature.

N for Nostalgia

Image

An autumn wind brought the face of nostalgia
Memory of his meaningful eyes stopped me
So warm, so soothing, so promising…
Strong arm around me, I found the way to embrace
Every moment like a risk I was to weak to take
Was it me or is my memory such a good illusionist?
Because somehow perfection turned into a failure…

He looked at me differently that particular day
Affraid of the unknown and the unknown was me
The battle he fought endlessly with himself
So determined to loose but prelonging the victory
He held my hand carefully as if for the last time
He gave in without any whisper of a warning
Smiled with sorrow and walked away forever.

Now all I’ve got are these foolish memories
Memories of a perfecton that failed flawlessly
Like a little boat on a stromy sea we sailed
Even when wrecked enjoying every bit of sunshine
And we both let go with a bitter aftertaste
Discouraged by the wrongness and despair
I surrendered and you have let me

FEAR

Image

Her cold finger
Slid right along my spine
A shiver went through me
And I closed my eyes
Not to meet hers
My eyelids fell down
But I couldn’t see the darkness
I screamed out the name of God
like a sinner battling for his soul
She’s put her rigid arms around me
And pulled without any effort
Like I was a flawless little doll
Whose eyes never looked
And lips never moved
I gave in and I’ve let her possess me
I could feel her
Spreading through my shaking body
Running through my vains
Freezing the tips of my fingers
She overpowered me completely
And I didn’t even put on a fight
I opened my eyes
Just to look into hers
Victorious eyes of Fear.

Hi there!!

A brand new blog by a not so brand new (27 years of age) amateur writer. Quite curious about the outcome of this seemingly small but oh so big experiment. Im completely new to this world of blogging and this would be my first attempt of sharing what has always been just my own. I’ll try to post as much of my work as possible and would appreciate any kind of comments or opinions. Happy blogging everyone!! xxx
